Ask

Did you find an answer?

Ask me any intellectual property question: patents, trademarks, software law, copyrights, trade secrets or make up a new area of ip law. I answer by publishing your question and my answer online. If you are wondering how an attorney might help you confidentially, please call or email me privately.
  • Write your question, from the top-of-your-mind and twitter-style (140 characters or less). Please, do not send personally identifying or confidential information, like real names, case numbers, or application serial numbers.
  • Write out any helpful details. Remember, do not send anything confidential or personally-identifying. Make up names to protect the innocent. If you do not, I may not be able to answer. Or, I may edit the question.
  • Laws can vary from one state to the next, so, it helps to know where you are.

Why do I offer this free service?

  1. Help the public: I am not satisfied with the online patent resources available to small business that help with patent and intellectual property laws. Most online patent information is written for patent attorneys or trademark lawyers. I write for business people, startups and entrepreneurs.

  2. Show my stuff: I want to show potential clients how I can talk about complex patent, trademark and software laws in a way that is easy to understand.

  3. Dispel IP Law Myths: You would think I would hear the same sort of mis-informed questions over and over; like old-fashioned urban myth. However, new legal myths spring up and spread quickly from time to time. Oh, and, mailing something to yourself accomplishes very little. Really.
