Charitable Giving

Twice each year (around January and July), I select a charitable organization to give both volunteer time and financial assistance. If your organization needs financial, volunteer, or legal assistance, please write a letter explaining your needs. In your letter, please help me understand your needs by explaining:

  • About your organization’s charitable purpose.
  • Who your organization helps.
  • How us use volunteers or what legal services you require.
  • How much money you are raising and for what purpose.
  • Anything else you would like to tell us.

Why do I want to know how I can volunteer?

First, lawyers are ethically required to give at least 50 hours of pro bono legal service each year. Legal work provided to non-profit, charitable organizations helps fulfill that requirement. Second, I know that charitable gifts make a bigger difference with charities that have well developed groups of volunteers.

I aspire to make a difference. In general, I help organizations that work in our local community, benefit from our legal/technical expertise, or assist children, particularly runaways or throwaways. If you send a letter, I promise to write back, even if I can not help immediately.
